Ava Van Osdol

Photographer

Ava Van Osdol is a photographer based between Paris and New York whose work balances cinematic glamour with natural intimacy. Her images feel confident and effortless, creating an atmosphere that puts her subjects at ease.

Originally from Detroit, Van Osdol trained as a stylist before transitioning behind the camera, bringing a fine arts background and a deep understanding of materiality and form. This foundation informs how she photographs fashion and people, with an emphasis on texture, presence, and precision.

Her clients include Saint Laurent, Alaïa, Tom Ford, and Maison Margiela, with work appearing in British Vogue and collaborations with Bella Hadid and Miley Cyrus.

The biggest motivation in your work?

Finding beauty in whatever I’m looking at. Fast, high-pressure situations can make that feel impossible, but there’s always something to uncover if I really look.

Your first fashion crush?

Definitely Barbie. I watched those movies religiously as a kid — her looks in Swan Lake and The Nutcracker were everything to me.

How much do social and political issues influence your creativity?

My existence shapes my creative eye. As a trans person, the empathy and perspective I bring to the world is inseparable from how I see and frame it.

What title would you give to this chapter of your life?

Magical Thinking
